How To Stop Worrying And Start Living
Are you stressed because you worry too much? Do you worry too much because you think too far ahead about the future? Are you seizing the day and cherishing every moment of your life right now? The best way to prepare for tomorrow is always to focus, with all your energy, on today.
(Take therefore no thought for the morrow; for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:34)
Many people have rejected those words because they must “take thought for the morrow”. I must have good insurance to take care of my family. I must send my kids to the best school. I must save enough money for my retirement. Of course you do. You should plan and prepare for tomorrow. There is nothing wrong with that. Three hundred years ago “thought” didn’t mean what it means today. What it really means is “have no anxiety for the morrow”. Work hard every day. Take care of your family. And do it without the anxiety.
In other words, Jesus wasn’t telling us to stop planning for the future. Instead, He was telling us not to worry about the things of this life and become preoccupied with them. We trust God for our daily needs. When we become His children, we are never outside of His care. Once we understand how much He loves us, our worries will begin to fade.
